Mrs. Heckart was recently selected as the Merrifield's Office Supply Okeene Teacher of the Month. She has taught in Okeene for 35 years, currently teaching 4th grade. Congratulations, Mrs. Heckart! 👏🏼

Today, we have 15 students who have dedicated their Saturday morning to improving their ACT scores in Okeene High School's first ACT Workshop. This is a pilot workshop. OHS's intent is to offer other ACT Workshops in the future to another group of Okeene students. Mrs. Hutchison is a passionate educator who is committed to helping our students grow through high expectations and relentless effort. Thank you for all you do Mrs. Hutchison!!!!
The ACT is the number one factor in college admissions. The ACT is also the number one factor in determining college scholarships. Colleges place importance on the ACT because it is an apples for apples comparison of students across the state and nation. Our school and our students are committing to improving our ACT scores. It is a common misconception that the GPA is the most important item in determining college success. The ACT is the gold standard. Do the hard things.
Recently, our school board and administration traveled to Oklahoma State University for a tour of the Ferguson School of Agriculture and the Spears School of Business. During the tour, we were able to interview current students in those two schools. The common theme from the students was..."I should have challenged myself in my high school coursework. I should have taken more AP courses and done the hard things." This was an eye opener. Do the hard things.

Today was our Redbud Read-Aloud Challenge Kickoff! The winner of the first round was "The Underpants" by Tammi Sauer.
