Reflecting on December: A Blessed Community in Okeene, Oklahoma As we step into a new year, I can't help but reflect on how truly blessed we are here in Okeene. We are surrounded by a supportive community, a dedicated school board, and an admininstration that tirelessly works to make everying we do in school possible. Our supportive parents are always there to help us along the way, and we are privileged to teach the most amazing students any teacher could ask for. Looking back at December, it was a month that reminded me of what education is really about. Our 7th-9th grade students came together in a beautiful display of selflessness and community spirit. They wrote Christmas cards and made 3D printed key chains for recovering soldiers at the Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD, sending over 70 heartfelt cards before the holidays. They also filled stockings for one another, learning and embodying the true spirit of giving. These acts of kindness and generosity showed me once again what makes Okeene students unique and special. They taught each other-and me-what it means to give without expecting anything in return. To watch students write cards to injured soldiers-strangers they don't know- and put gifts into stockings as if they were Santa is something I wish you all could have witnessed. There aren't words to describe it. Tears might. My heart grew. Thank you Okeene, for making 2024 an inspiring and incredible year. Here's to continuing the spirit of support and community in the months to come! December proved that our students are becoming exactly what we want them to be, learning from the incredible examples set by parents, administratiors, and community members. It was a great MONTH to be a Whippet!
