On 11-29-23 the Okeene School Board and Administration took a trip to Stillwater to learn how our school can better prepare our students for college. During the trip, they toured the campus, the Spears College of Business, and the Ferguson College of Agriculture. They had to the opportunity to interview current college students about their programs and what their high school's did well to prepare the students for the college experience and education. Thank you to our board for taking the time out of their day to learn how they can help our students continue to grow.

Okeene High School sent a small group of students to the Autry Tech Center in Enid to tour the campus and five of Autry's program offerings; HVAC Repair, Construction, CNC (Machinist Tools), Robotics, and Electronic Automation. There is a great need in NW Oklahoma in these trade areas. Our students learned about the admissions process, details about each program, and financial aid. Pictured below are Joseph Schroeder, Andrew Schroeder, Bryan Briseno, Marcos Rivera, PJ Perez, Corbin Cagle, Memphis Hall, Jordan Releford, and Mr. Feely. There were several tie ins to our own STEM program. We witnessed a simulated assembly line that managed by programmable logic controllers (STEM Tie In - Micro Bits and programming). We observed robotic arms in the Robotics Lab (STEM Tie In - Vex Robotics and programming). The boys got an opportunity to speak with Jeff Clark of the Construction program. In that program, students found programmable laser cutters and programmable routers used to cut pieces and limit waste when making cabinets.
The CNC Machinist program was also of interest. Students in that program learn to use the normal manual machinist tools, but also saw some of the newer automated tools and their capabilities (STEM Tie In - Tinker Cad and 3D printing). The culinary program was of interest to a couple of our students as well. We are clearly on the right track with our STEM program. Thanks to the community for supporting it financially, Mrs. Hutchison for her vision for the program, Mr. Heckart for his assistance, and the school board and Mr. Jinkens for their follow through.

The HS basketball games scheduled for tomorrow, 11/28, and Friday 12/1, have been postponed due to football playoffs.
